Dealing with dry lips can be frustrating. The peeling of the skin is distracting and, at times, painful. Not to mention that it looks unpleasant even if you try to hide with creme or glossy lipstick. Although there's always the good old lip balm, some of us may still find it to be merely a band-aid solution that doesn't really nourish the lips and prevent it from drying out in the future. So what's our next bet? Trying out lip treatments and lip care products.

3 shades of lipstick in golden casing

In our journey to finding a solution to dry lips, we discovered Sisley's Phyto-Lip Delight (SGD63/~USD47.18). It has vitamin E derivatives and beneficial oils such as Jojoba and shea. To test its efficacy, we tried to use it in a variety of ways: on its own, under a matte lipstick and as a topper. Can this be the new holy grail of lip treatments? And more importantly, is this the answer to dry lips? Read on to find out what we think.

Packaging, scent, and texture

"One look at the packaging and you already know that it’s a luxe product," says Sub-Editor Jordianne. "The gold doesn’t look cheap even though it is made out of plastic." Moreover, she remarks that it has considerable heft and doesn't feel flimsy. In terms of usage, features writer Therese says that because of its size and durability, it's very travel-friendly.

Moving on to scents, Jordianne says that it has "a slightly saccharine smell" that won't bother those who are picky with scents like her.

As for the texture, features writer Amanda says that it feels comfortable and lightweight. Therese shares the same sentiment. "The gel-balm texture is unique," she says. "It doesn't feel heavy on the lips yet it's very hydrating." On the other hand, Jordianne expressed that it’s heavier than most lip balms so she just uses it at night. And in the morning she'll wake up to plump, moisturised lips.

Sisley Phyto-Lip Delight in Cool

Aside from the nourishing ingredients mentioned above, the Sisley Phyto-Lip Delight also has Padina pavonica extract that provides lasting hydration and plum oil that gives it the comfortable feeling we like. This lip care product comes in three colours: Cool (beige tint), Pretty (pink tint) and Sweet (orange tint).

Application

"While it does feel like a gloss upon the first swatch, it’s not as sticky," says Jordianne. "In fact, it envelopes your lips with moisture and gives your lips a tiny hint of colour." Meanwhile, Therese finds it to be not sticky at all and instead describes it as a "lightweight gel that melts into oil" upon contact with the lips.

Amanda shares that even though the pigmentation of the Phyto-Lip Delight is not as rich as a lipstick's, the tint still gives the lips a hint of colour that gives the pout an uplifted appearance. "When worn under a lipstick, this lip care provides all-day hydration," she adds. "It's great for when you're using ultra matte lippies."

Sisley Phyto-Lip Delight in Sweet; From top to bottom: using Phyto-Lip Delight as a topper (you can see that it gave an orange tint and some glossy sheen to the Colourpop November lipstick), Phyto-Lip Delight Sweet on its own, swatch of Colourpop November lipstick for comparison

As a lip topper, Therese says that this product may interfere with your lip colour a little because of its own tint. Nevertheless, when you smack your lips a few times and blot, it starts to assimilate to your lipstick, giving it a transparent, glossy sheen.

Results

"Being accustomed to lip balms that are in stick form, the gloss-like texture of this product was refreshing for me," says Jordianne. "Overall, I'd say that if picking this up won’t feel like a splurge, then give it a go." Moreover, she says that while it’s better than your average petroleum jelly, there may be other products in the market with a lower price point that has comparable quality.

"After using it for about two months, I can feel that my lips are nourished and plumper," Therese says. "I have never experienced dry lips since I started using Sisley's Phyto-Lip Delight, which is nothing short of impressive." However, like Jordianne, Therese feels that the price makes this lip care product a major splurge or a beauty investment. "Nevertheless, it's a great lip product," she says.

As for Amanda, who has dry and sensitive lips, the Phyto-Lip Delight is now part of her holy-grail roster. "Even by itself, it really gives a healthy and moisturising feel," she says. "The chic packaging is also an added bonus; it's definitely a must purchase for those who want luscious lips."
